Concrete Project Case Studies

How we've handled the jobs that had complications — the HOA submissions, the drainage problems, the access challenges, the tight timelines.

Carolina Trace Driveway Replacement

Carolina Trace, Lee County

Removal + Replacement

Carolina Trace Driveway Replacement

The Challenge

HOA required architectural approval. Existing driveway had cracked through the full slab thickness in three places and had heaved near the garage apron. Access to the community required a contractor badge and coordination with the gate.

Our Approach

We submitted the HOA architectural application with full documentation — specs, materials, finish color — and were approved in one cycle. Demo and haul-off took one day. Sub-base was worse than visible conditions suggested: we dug out and replaced approximately 6 inches of compromised fill. New slab poured the following week. Tie-in to the garage apron planned in advance and executed with a flush, sealed joint.

The Result

Project completed on time and on the fixed quote. HOA sign-off received at final inspection. Homeowner called six months later to confirm the apron tie-in was still invisible.

Pinehurst Stamped Concrete Driveway

Village of Pinehurst, Moore County

Stamped Concrete

Pinehurst Stamped Concrete Driveway

The Challenge

The Village of Pinehurst ARB required a specific pattern and color range consistent with the neighborhood's architectural character. The existing driveway was standard broom finish and the homeowner wanted an upgrade before selling.

Our Approach

We worked with the homeowner to select an ashlar slate pattern and a buff/sandstone two-color combination that the ARB had previously approved in the neighborhood. We submitted the ARB application, handled the follow-up, and were approved first try. Demo, sub-base repair, and stamped pour completed in four days total. We applied two finish coats of acrylic sealer and left the homeowner with a written 2-year resealing reminder.

The Result

ARB approval on first submission. Project completed within the homeowner's timeline. The house sold above asking price 18 days after listing — realtor attributed the driveway to materially improving curb appeal.

Apex Patio with Grade Challenge

Apex, Wake County

Concrete Patio

Apex Patio with Grade Challenge

The Challenge

The homeowner wanted a 16×20 patio off the back door. The lot sloped toward the house in both directions, creating a bowl-shaped drainage situation. Previous attempts at a patio by a different contractor had resulted in standing water after rain.

Our Approach

We designed a dual-slope patio with a central channel drain running to a pop-up emitter at the lot edge. The patio slopes 1/8" per foot in two directions toward the center channel. Forms were set accordingly. The channel drain was connected to a 4" PVC line routed under the grass to a pop-up 12 feet from the patio edge.

The Result

First rain after cure: the patio drained completely within three minutes. Homeowner sent a photo. No standing water. Project came in at the fixed quote despite the additional drainage work being more complex than typical — that complexity was identified at the estimate and included in the original price.

Sanford Workshop Slab with Lift Pit

Sanford, Lee County

Monolithic Slab

Sanford Workshop Slab with Lift Pit

The Challenge

Homeowner wanted a 28×32 workshop slab with a two-post lift. The lift manufacturer specified 6-inch-thick reinforced concrete with specific anchor bolt placement. Lee County required a building permit with an inspection at the foundation stage.

Our Approach

We obtained the lift manufacturer's concrete specs before quoting. The quote reflected 6-inch slab, rebar grid instead of fiber mesh for the lift area, and anchor bolt placement per the manufacturer's template. Permit was pulled through Lee County. Inspector passed the rebar inspection before pour. Anchor bolts were set in template jig, poured, and checked for position before concrete set.

The Result

Lee County inspection passed. Lift installer set the posts without modification — anchor bolt placement was accurate. Workshop is in active use.
