Coordinating Concrete Work With a General Contractor

Concrete footers are the first step in a home addition — and the sequence with your GC matters. Here's how to get it right.

When a homeowner is managing a home addition, the concrete sub and the general contractor need to be in sync from day one.

What We Need from the GC Before We Quote

Foundation drawings or at minimum a sketch showing the addition footprint, footer depth, width, and reinforcement specifications. If an architect or structural engineer is involved, we want the foundation plan from the drawing set.

The Sequencing

Footers go in before framing starts. In most residential additions, the sequence is: concrete (footers + pad) → inspection → framing. We coordinate with your GC to pour when the schedule needs it.

When the GC Changes the Drawing

It happens. Footer dimensions change as the design evolves. If drawings change after we've quoted, we'll revise the quote to match. We'd rather re-quote than pour to old specs.
